Every recommendation comes down to two things: the shape (how much it sees) and the material (how tough it is). Here's the quick visual.

Placement
Per Fred Silver: place the mirror 1–2 ft above eye level (above fixture level in retail), always angled down toward the traffic you need to see. Outdoors, mount high enough to clear trucks.

Material = toughness

Polycarbonate is the warehouse standard — virtually unbreakable, won't shatter if struck by a forklift or pallet. Acrylic for everyday value, glass for the sharpest image (indoor, or steel-back outdoor).

Sizing = distance or area

Official Fred Silver sizing: about 1 ft of viewing distance per inch of mirror width — a 30 in convex covers 30 ft. Domes are rated by floor area: a 26 in full dome watches about 400 sq ft.

Maintenance matters

Keep them clean. Dust buildup can make a safety mirror useless — and gets flagged in a safety audit.
